Bob Wiederhold
Chairman, President & CEO
Bob brings over 20 years of software-related, high technology experience to the company. Until 2001, Bob served as President and CEO of Tality Corporation, the worldwide leader in electronic design services whose revenues grew to $200M and had 1,500 employees worldwide. Bob also held several executive general management positions at Cadence Design Systems Inc., an electronic design automation company he joined in 1985 as a small start-up, and helped grow to over $1B during his 13 years at the company. From 1993 through 1996, Bob also headed High Level Design Systems, a successful electronic design automation start-up that was acquired by Cadence in 1996. Most recently, Bob served as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Benchmark Capital, a leading venture capital firm in Silicon Valley.
Alasdair Rawsthorne
Founder & CTO
Prior to founding Transitive, Alasdair was a lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Manchester for over 20 years. Alasdair’s research at the University in the 1980’s focused on microprocessors and microcomputers, and their associated operating systems, device drivers, compilers, and development environments. In 1995, with a team of graduate students, Alasdair began development of the Dynamic Binary Translation software that launched Transitive in October 2000. Alasdair also played a prominent technical role in the design of a successful range of CPU products for ICL in the 1970s.
Richard Irving
General Partner, Pond Ventures
Based in Silicon Valley, California, Richard has 20 years experience in venture capital, business management, marketing and engineering in technology companies including Pond, AT&T Bell Labs, Advanced Micro Devices, Brooktree, and Irving International. Starting as a chip designer at Bell Labs, and strategic marketing manager at AMD, Richard later managed three business units at Brooktree with full P&L responsibility. These grew from as small as $1M up to $90M. Richard has been involved in almost $300M worth of deals, including two initial public offerings and many private financings. Richard, a founder of Pond, also serves as Director of SealedMedia and Artisan Software Tools, and as Chairman of picoChip Designs. Richard has a B.Sc. (1st Class Hons.) and an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from UMIST.
John Borchers
General Partner, Crescendo Ventures
John joined Crescendo Ventures in 1997 and has played a leading role in developing the firm's presence in Europe and expanding Crescendo's capabilities in the area of portfolio development. After spending much of the last two years working in Crescendo's London office, John is now based in Palo Alto and is focusing on new investment opportunities in the enterprise infrastructure market. Prior to joining Crescendo Ventures, John worked in the data warehousing field where he focused on strategic consulting and decision support systems in the financial, publishing and consumer goods industries. He spent two years in Sydney, Australia, where he opened the first Asia-Pacific office for a U.S.-based data warehousing firm that is now part of Snyder Communications. John received his MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond. John has been involved with a number of companies in both Europe and the U.S. including bDNA, NetCentrex, Riodata and SealedMedia.
Peter Wagner
Managing Partner, Accel Partners
Peter Wagner has worked in networking and computing since the mid-1980's, as a physicist, line manager and venture investor.
Peter focuses on networked infrastructure, including the communications, computing, storage, and wireless sectors. Since joining Accel in 1996, he has led investments in over 30 early stage companies, many of which have gone on to complete IPO's or successful acquisitions. These include Amber Networks (acquired by Nokia), Arrowpoint Communications (IPO 3/00, subsequently acquired by Cisco), BroadJump (IPO 6/04 after merger with Motive Communications), Northpoint Communications (IPO 5/99, subsequently acquired by ATT), iBEAM Broadcasting (IPO 5/00, subsequently acquired by Williams), Tellium (IPO 5/01), Terraspring (acquired by Sun Microsystems), and TiMetra Networks (acquired by Alcatel). Peter currently serves on the Board of Directors at Airgo Networks, Azul Systems, New Edge Networks, Omneon Video Networks, Topspin Communications, and Trapeze Networks. He also works closely with Acopia Networks, Aspendos Communications, Infinera, and Sylantro Systems, and was part of the Accel team responsible for investments in Motive Communications (MOTV) and Peribit Networks.
Prior to joining Accel, Peter was a line manager at Silicon Graphics, Inc., responsible for several generations of workstations, digital media and networking products. Before Silicon Graphics, Peter worked with McKinsey and Company, advising major technology clients on their development, marketing and operations strategies.
Peter is the President of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists. He holds an A.B. in Physics from Harvard College, summa cum laude, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
Carl Everett
Partner, Accel Partners
Carl is currently a member of the Board of Directors at FormFactor (NASDAQ: FORM) and in addition serves as independent Board of Director member at two privately held companies, Cooligy and Topspin Communications an Accel portfolio company.
Carl served as senior vice president of Dell Computer Corporation's Personal Systems Group. He was responsible for worldwide development and marketing of all Dell desktop, workstation and notebook product lines, as well as the strategic technology direction for Dell’s award-winning client systems. Prior to Dell, Carl enjoyed a 20-year career with Intel Corporation leading many of Intel’s strategic efforts in setting industry and technology directions. He became an Intel vice president in 1989, overseeing North American sales and later all worldwide sales and marketing organizations. In 1994, he became senior vice president and general manager of Intel's successful Microprocessor Products Group. In that role, Carl oversaw the rapid adoption of Intel's Pentium processor in the marketplace and introduced Intel's P6 technology, the foundation of Intel's product roadmap into the late 1990s. His many accomplishments while at Intel include: the unprecedented support of the Intel Inside brand campaign throughout the Personal Computer industry, the adoption of PCI system bus technology across all PC manufacturers, the launch of major reseller and branding efforts to open up China and other Asian markets to Intel Architecture-based systems, and the creation of the Intel Architecture-based workstation industry.
Carl holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from New Mexico State University. In 1992, he was named NMSU's Distinguished Alumni and in 1997 he was inducted into the university's College of Business Hall of Fame.
Richard Young
Managing Director, Manchester Technology Fund
Richard is Managing Director of the Manchester Technology Fund, an early-stage technology investment business he set up in 1999 in partnership with the University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. Richard has 17 years venture capital experience and was previously Investment Director at 3i plc. He has invested in over 40 companies, several of which have gone on to achieve stock-market listings. In addition to Transitive Technologies, he is a director of Medeval Group and iMorphics and investment adviser to the Rising Stars Growth Fund. He also lectures on Entrepreneurship at the Manchester Business School.
Paul Madera
Managing Director, Meritech Capital Partners
Paul Madera was a founder of Meritech in 1999 and currently focuses on the storage, semiconductor and digital consumer sectors. He has been directly involved with 2Wire, Corvis Corporation, Danger, Homestead Technologies, IntraLase, Riverbed Technology and Salesforce.com.
Prior to Meritech, Paul was Managing Director and Head of the Private Equity Group at Montgomery Securities/Banc of America. He began his career in finance as an investment banker with Morgan Stanley in New York. Before joining Morgan Stanley, he served in the United States Air Force as an F-16 Instructor Pilot and a member of the Air Force Liaison Office and representative to the Senate and House Armed Services Committees.
Paul holds a BS from the United States Air Force Academy and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
